Questa settimana abbiamo l’onore di ospitare il podcast esclusivo di Ricardo Donoso, uno dei talenti della nuova synth music. Un artista che negli ultimi due anni ci ha regalato altrettanti album intensi e ricchi di fascino, due gioielli che è un delitto lasciar passare inosservati.
Il suo recente Assimilating The Shadow candidato come uno dei migliori album dell’anno.
Nel podcast per electronique si cimenta nel ricreare un atmosfera da after hour secondo i suoi canoni stilistici. Spiace deludere il buon Ricardo, ma di musica così negli after ce n’è veramente poca. Saremmo tutti più felici nel doverci ricredere.

Per iniziare puoi dirci in che modo ti sei avvicinato alla produzione musicale ed all’arte del djing?
Ho studiato ritmo Jazz alle scuole superiori ed il nostro professore fece acquistare un sintetizzatore modulare per il nostro dipartimento. Fui subito colpito e cominciai a capire come far comunicare questo strumento con quel che facevo, poi diventò un ossessione per me.
In un primo momento desideravo soltanto aggiungere texture e partiture elettroniche a brani di gruppi rock sperimentali con i quali suonavo, poi pian piano ho iniziato a scrivere la mia musica e concentrarmi esclusivamente su essa.
Come definiresti/descriveresti la musica che ami proporre?
Beh, questa è una domanda difficile. I miei album recenti sono incentrati sul concetto di Techno, Trance ed Ambient ma tutto è in continua evoluzione e sinceramente non so dove andrò a finire con la mia musica.
Potresti descriverci il tuo setup in studio? Con cosa produci musica attualmente?
I miei strumenti principali al momento sono un Moog Voyager electric blu, Nord Lead 3, Korg Radius & MS2000 e un MF-104m delay analogico ed infine alcuni synths più soft. Tutto passa attraverso un Mackie 1640 con una scheda Firewire dentro Logic 8.
Dove hai registrato il podcast? E cosa puoi dirci in merito?
Ho registrato tutto nel mio studio, questo dovrebbe potenzialmente ricreare il suono di un after hours nel quale suonerei. Una costruzione lenta dinamica ed oscura. Non sono un Dj, quindi non aspettatevi virtuosismi e beatmatching avanzato, tutto è incentrato sull’atmosfera.
Su cosa stai lavorando al momento?
Molto lavoro! Iniziando da una soundtrack per un documentario, poi gli ultimi ritocchi ad un progetto dance su dodici pollici ed ancora finendo il nuovo album come Scuba Death.

To start out, can you tell us how you got into djing and producing electronic music?
I was studying jazz drumming in high school and the professor ordered a synthesizer module and a sampler for the the department. I was instantly attached, i figured out how to use those two pieces of gear in and out and from then on its become an obsession really.
At first i would just add textures and electronic treatments to more rock and experimental groups i was playing with. Within time i started writing my own compositions and really began focusing on it exclusively.
How do you define/describe the music you make and play?
Thats a tough question. My recent albums have been centered around techno & trance and ambient music. These things are constantly evolving so who knows where the sound will go next.
Could you describe your current studio setup? What are you making music with?
My main pieces right now are a Moog Voyager electric blue, Nord Lead 3, Korg Radius & MS2000 an MF-104m analog delay and some soft synths. All running through a Mackie 1640 with a Firewire card into Logic 8.
Where did you record this podcast and what can you tell us about it?
Put it together in my studio – it basically covers a potential after hours set i would do. Really slow building, dynamic and at times dark and others euphoric. I not a DJ so don’t expect any beat-matching, its more about the atmosphere.
What are you working on at the moment?
Lots in the works. Beginning to score a documentary film. Putting the finishing touches on a new straight dance music project 12″ and prepping a new Scuba Death record.
