Questa settimana ospitiamo il Dj mix di Anthony, un giovane producer belga che ha da poco pubblicato un interessante dodici pollici per la Other Heights records. E’ soltanto un primo segnale, ma contiene elementi molto interessanti per guardare alla techno respirando una prospettiva diversa.
Il suo mix è oscuro e cerebrale, notturno. Un autentico tunnel techno. Buon ascolto!

Per iniziare puoi dirci in che modo ti sei avvicinato alla produzione musicale ed all’arte del djing?

Ho iniziato a fare il Dj sul finire degli anni ’90. La produzione è stata poi un naturale proseguimento artistico di ciò che avevo iniziato a fare con i Dj set.

Come definiresti/descriveresti la musica che ami proporre?

Questa è una domanda interessante, posso spiegarlo dicendo che sto’ sperimentando intorno al suono distorto dei synth nel suono techno, dove è costante la pulsazione del ritmo in combinazione con differenti linee di synth e drones.

Potresti descriverci il tuo setup in studio? Con cosa produci musica attualmente?

Attualmente sto’ lavorando con Machine della Native Instruments ed Ableton, che è lo strumento che meglio si adatta alle mie idee attuali

Dove hai registrato il podcast? E cosa puoi dirci in merito?

Ho registrato il podcast nel mio studio nel centro di Bruxelles, ho cercato di concentrarmi sul ritmo, sui suoni metallici e su un’alone di mistero che volevo donare all’intero mix che culmina in una traccia di Oni Ayhun che è appunto molto misteriosa. Entrare nell’ignoto che diventa noto.

Su cosa stai lavorando al momento?

Sto’ lavorando su molta nuova musica. Un paio di nuove releases tra cui una per la Prologue ed una seconda per una nuova label tedesca che si chiama Ressort Imprint, poi alcune cose delle quali non posso dire nulla al momento.

Chi o cosa è la tua maggiore ispirazione?

Subisco molte influenze, sul lato musicale posso citare Regis, Surgeon e Jeff Mills che è stato ed è tuttora una costante fonte d’ispirazione. In questi giorni potrei dire Oni Ayhun e Rrose e molta vecchia musica sperimentale nella quale mi rifletto completamente. Oltre la musica posso citare i film di Tarkovsky e Bergman.

To start out, can you tell us how you got into djing and producing electronic music?

I got into djing in late 90s and then production came after that as a natural outcome and a way to express myself in a new and creative ways that I could not do only through a dj set.

How do you define/describe the music you make and play?

Hm that is very interesting question, but I can say that Im trying to delve in a distorted synthetic organ and synth side of techno. Where is constant pulsation of the rhythm with combination of different synthlines and drones.

Could you describe your current studio setup? What are you making music with?

Currently Im using Maschine / Native Instruments and Ableton that suits me well with the current ideas I have.

Where did you record this podcast and what can you tell us about it?

It was recorded at my home studio based in the central part of Brussels. With this podcast I tried to focus on rhythm, metallic synth sounds and mystery to be developed through the mix, which culminated and ended with Oni Ayhun track that is mystery initself. Entering into unknown that becomes known.

What are you working on at the moment?

I’m working on some new project that is in a process of formation. With some new and on going releases, with one that is coming out on Prologue Music. One remix for a new German label Ressort Imprint and some more that I would not say at the moment.

Who/what is your biggest inspiration?

Many influences from different sides but musically I can say that from early side of techno Regis, Surgeon and Jeff Mills was and is constantly inspiring me. But these days Oni Ayhun, Rrose and some older experimental concrete music is something that Im strongly reflecting on.  Beside music movies by Tarkovsky and Bergman are  also part of this ongoing musical process.
