Un mix nel quale ha voluto inserire soltanto artisti norvegesi, fotografando in maniera precisa gli umori di una scena per palati finissimi.
Buon ascolto!Per iniziare puoi dirci in che modo ti sei avvicinato alla produzionemusicale ed all’arte del djing?Sin dalla metà degli anni ’70 ero affascinato dai suoni profondi della musica elettronica. In seguito, nel 1981 acquistai un sintetizzatore ed un sequencer di seconda mano…Come definiresti/descriveresti la musica che ami proporre?
Ambient, sweeping, icy synthscapes, with digital snowflakes. Se riesci ad immaginare la parte più fredda ed oscura della Norvegia per renderti conto di cosa è qui, e se puoi fare questo senza congelarti..ecco hai trovato la soluzione.
Potresti descriverci il tuo step in studio? Con cosa produci musica attualmente?
Utilizzo soltanto hardware, preferibilmente strumenti elettronici degli anni ’70 ed ’80 acquistati a basso costo. Inoltre utilizzo strumenti per la registrazione come tape, dat, sampler e field recorder. Tutti i miei suoni sono fatti a mano, manipolati e mixati dentro un 2 tracce master-recorder attraverso un preamplificatore valvolare (NOS-tubes 50s – 60s).
Dove hai registrato il podcast? E cosa puoi dirci in merito?
Quando mi è stato chiesto di compilare un podcast per electronique.it ho pensato di focalizzare il tutto su artisti norvegesi. La musica ambient e sperimentale norvegese è ispirata dalla scarsa densità di popolazione, dal suono naturale del territorio e del suo clima glaciale. Una risposta musicale unica agli scuri mesi invernali dell’Artico, una via terapeutica e creativa per i mesi bui dell’anno. Il mix è stato registrato in casa.
Su cosa stai lavorando al momento?
Attualmente sto lavorando ad un album ambient che si intitolerà Firework, dove dei field recordings di località remote saranno i principali strumenti di lavoro. Sarà un’autoproduzione su CDR e digitale che vedrà luce in questo mese. Ho anche un altro paio di album pianificati per questo 2016
Chi o cosa è la tua maggiore ispirazione?
I suoni naturali sono una delle mie maggiori ispirazioni. Ogni luogo ha il suo suono distintivo.
Musicalmente le mie ispirazioni provengono da artisti come …Daphne Oram, Tangerine Dream, Kraftwerk, Jean Michel Jarre, Joy Division, David Sylvian, Scott Walker, Thomas Dolby, Rupert
Hine, Autechre, Aphex Twin, Biosphere, Chris Watson, Rhythm and Sound, Taylor Deupree, Craig Tattersall, Thomas Köner …per nominarne giusto qualcuno.

We are proud to present the podcast of Helge Tømmervåg aka Mind over MIDI. A producer who started his career in the early ’80. His deep and visceral sound that clearly represents an incredibly beautiful land like Norway.
To start out, can you tell us how you got into music production?
Since the mid-70s I have been deeply fascinated by the electronic sound and music.
In 1981 I purchased a second hand synthesizer and a step sequencer.
How do you define/describe the music you make and play?
Ambient, sweeping, icy synthscapes, with digital snowflakes. If you can picture the very furthest, coldest, darkest part of Norway, and ff
you want to get an idea of what it’s like there, and can do without the frostbite, then this is the perfect solution.
Could you describe your current studio setup? What are you making music with?
I use hardware only, preferably low-budget electronics from 70s to early 80s. I also use several recorders where I record parts, ¼” tape,
cassette, DAT, sampler, field recorder.
All sounds are hand played/manipulated/mixed direct to 2 track master-recorder through a valve pre-amp (NOS-tubes 50s – 60s)
Where did you record this podcast and what can you tell us about it?
When I was asked to do a podcast for Electronique.it I wanted to focus on Norwegian artists.
Norwegian experimental/ambient music is very much inspired by the country’s sparse population, natural surroundings and cold climate.
A unique musical response to the Arctic’s dark winter months, finding music-making to be both therapeutic and creative catalyst in the dark months of the year.
The mix was recorded at home.
What are you working on at the moment?
I am currently working on an ambient album called Fieldwork, where field-recordings from remote locations are basically the main instrument. Self-released limited CDR and digital, release May.
There will also be one or maybe two more albums planned for 2016.
Who/what is your biggest inspiration?
Natural sound is one of my main inspirations, every location has distinct and subtle sounds created by its environment.
